For Citrix site upgrade, we have to mount the product ISO in Citrix server and run the setup file. But What about VDIs? Based on your company’s VDA usage, you may have hundreds to thousands of VDIs in your company. How do you upgrade VDA agent on all those VDIs?

Auto Deploy new VDI in xendesktop catalog

As part of day to day tasks, one of the major activity for citrix admins is to maintain free VDIs in xendesktop delivery groups. If we dont have registered free VDI machines, and when new users try to connect to VDI, they would get errors like “Cannot start VM”. So, we have to make sure we have enough free VDIs in delivery groups. As a part of this process, I wrote a powershell script that would auto provision new VDIs to a given catalog and add them to delivery group.

If you’d like to secure xml traffic from storefront to DDC, you should install certificates on the DDC. If you have IIS installed in your DDC server, then mapping the certificate to 443 is very straight forward process. Open IIS manager (inetmgr), select your server and then select server certificates. Import the certificate along with private key and bind it to 443. If you do not have IIS installed in your DDC server, then you should install the certificate on the DDC server and run netsh commands to link that certificate to citrix DDC software.

Space issue on /flash partition Netscaler ADC 12.1 does not save the configuration. When clicked on the save icon in the browser, it prompts whether you want to save running configuration. Nothing happens when you click yes. From the putty session, when you run “save config” command, it outputs “ERROR:” and no error message is displayed on the putty console. Solution: Login to your netscaler through putty and check the free space of /flash directory.

Check which application is using a port: Open the command prompt and run netstat -aon | findstr \[port\_number\]. If the port is being used by any application, then that application’s detail will be shown. The number, which is shown at the last column of the list, is the PID (process ID) of that application. Make note of this. Type tasklist | findstr [PID]. Replace the [PID] with the number from the above step and hit enter.

During a high availability file synchronization operation, a set of files are copied from the primary appliance to the secondary appliance. The high availability setup is synchronized automatically at an interval of one minute or when you manually run the sync ha files command. The secondary appliance initiates the high availability synchronization. The rsync process completes the high availability file synchronization and the nsfsyncd process controls the synchronization. The rsync process uses an SSH tunnel for file synchronization, but the default SSH port 22 can be updated when running the rsync process.

High availability synchronization is the process by which configurations are kept identical between the appliances. It is not the process that runs individual commands on the secondary appliance after successful completion on the primary appliance, that is called Command Propagation and while the two are similar in function, they perform different functions. High availability synchronization is used as a failsafe method of keeping configurations between the appliances synchronized whether the command propagation is successful or not.

Run Citrix PowerShell commands remotely
